The field of Law Enforcement is ever changing and so are the dynamics needed to support a well-rounded agency. Navigating a career in law enforcement is never easy. The additional issues that present themselves to women in law enforcement are as complex and diverse as the women who serve in these roles. This course will discuss gender-specific issues in policing including pregnancy, maternity leave, breaking the glass ceiling, work-life balance, personal and professional relationship development, proactive policing tactics, victim-based policing, career navigation, leadership, fitting in while maintaining self-identity, mindset, self-growth, discrimination, perception, and responding with grace and patience. We can only control so much but all too often we give up control on how we approach situations and how we react to outside influences because of what we believe others’ perceptions are. The collateral damage results in the sacrifice our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Regardless of your rank, assignment, or level of experience, this course will provide you the necessary tools in order to level up and excel at this profession as a female police officer.

Heather Glogolich started her law enforcement career in 2004. She is presently a lieutenant in a municipal police agency in the State of New Jersey and she is assigned to the patrol division. In her present assignment, Lieutenant Glogolich oversees the Community Policing Unit, serves as the agency’s Domestic Violence Liaison, Internship Coordinator, and LGBTQ+ Liaison. During the course of her career, she has been assigned to a multitude of diverse assignments including patrol, school resource officer, traffic safety officer, and has performed the role of field training officer. Additionally, she has been a board member of the New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement and she is presently the Vice President of the organization.

Lt. Glogolich earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Caldwell University in Criminal Justice and then went on to earn dual Master’s Degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Administrative Science and Homeland Security. She is currently attending Saint Elizabeth University as a doctoral student seeking her Ph.D. in Higher Education with a Servant Leadership focus. Lt. Glogolich also serves as an adjunct professor for the Criminal Justice Department at Saint Elizabeth University. In addition to her impressive resume filled with achievements and accolades, Heather Glogolich survived a harrowing domestic violence incident in 2008 at the hands of her ex-husband. Instead of allowing it to break her, she shares her story as a survivor through speaking presentations and victim advocacy. In January 2020, Lt. Glogolich began volunteering as the Law Enforcement Advisor for VictimsVoice, an app that helps victims Record2Remember.
